LAUSD Jordan High School Modernization
Budlong provided comprehensive Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and Low Voltage (MEPFPLV) engineering design services for the $72 million redevelopment of David Starr Jordan High School. This transformative project revitalized the historic 1930s campus into a modern, student-centered learning environment, with phased construction to minimize disruption to active school operations. Our team supported the full MEPFPLV design across all phases, including the adaptive reuse of existing buildings and the construction of new three-story Student Learning Centers. We engineered efficient HVAC systems, code-compliant electrical and lighting infrastructure, water-saving plumbing systems, and fire protection and low voltage systems tailored for educational environments. The redevelopment also included site-wide utility coordination for new lunch shelters, plaza areas, and landscape-integrated bioswales. Budlong’s design approach emphasized sustainability and operational reliability, supporting the project’s LEED certification and contributing to its recognition by the DBIA-Western Pacific Region for excellence in rehabilitation and restoration.
