BART New Downtown San Jose Station

Budlong is providing MEP Engineering services for the Downtown San José Station, emphasizing its role as a gateway to a modern multicultural destination, particularly focused on San José State University (SJSU) and its students. The station aims for a distinctive design by incorporating color, contemporary architecture, and sustainable materials. The second entrance building to the east is intended to reflect the identity of the SJSU student body and may display campus news or student project work. The station, located on Santa Clara Street, features entrances between Market and 1st Streets and between 1st and 2nd Streets, with ticketing and fare gates at street level and concourse and platforms situated underground. The station's urban design prioritizes access to sustainable and non-motorized transportation, catering to riders from VTA light rail and buses on Santa Clara, First, and Second Streets. Bicycle parking options are planned at the entrances, aligning with the vision of integrating the station area into downtown development for a transit-oriented community. An emergency egress and ventilation facility will be positioned at the northwest corner of 3rd Street. Passengers accessing the Downtown San José Station will utilize stairs, escalators, or high-speed elevators to reach the concourse level, approximately 65 feet below ground. From there, a center platform, approximately 75 feet below ground, provides access to trains heading west to Santa Clara or east towards Oakland.
